Dear Committee Members,

The purpose of this letter is to call to your attention the impact of the Department of Energy’s decision to pause the approval of Sempra Infrastructure’s pending application for an export permit for the Port Arthur LNG Phase II Project. The decision to pause this project will have multiple and far-reaching negative effects on not only our local community, but on a national scale.

Port Arthur LNG has invested more than $3 million dollars towards community investments and non-profits in our area and has been a true friend to Port Arthur and Sabine Pass. They have invested more than $40 million dollars with 35+ local vendors to procure needed materials and services to consolidate pipelines and upgrade a portion of the City of Port Arthur’s waterline serving local residents and businesses. At the request of Texas Department of Transportation, they relocated a 3.5-mile portion of State Highway 87 and will contribute more than $2.6 billion over the project’s first 15 years of operation to the U.S. economy.

I am, therefore, writing to express my wholehearted support for the Port Arthur LNG Phase II Project. This phase will create up to 3,500 construction jobs as an extension of the peak workforce from the base project, and as an additional economic impact, resulting from the expansion, an estimated output of $5.7 billion dollars annually will be injected into the U.S. Economy.

In conclusion, the Port Arthur LNG project represents a pivotal opportunity to not only meet the energy needs of the communities but also to drive positive social, economic, and environmental outcomes for our nation.

I appreciate your attention in this matter.

Sincerely,

Joe Tant
