Young Emerging Leaders Pleasure Island Clean Up

Mar 19, 2021

The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce’s Young Emerging Leaders (YEL) provides Port Arthur and the Golden Triangle Area’s future leaders the opportunity to build relationships, further develop themselves as professionals, serve the community and engage with business, civic and political leaders. The organization is composed of young emerging leaders ages 21-40, committed to growing our community through the exposure of business activities and service.

The YEL Organization provides the opportunity for its young emerging leaders to network with other young professionals in the area and to also learn from great leaders in our area.

The young emerging leaders enjoy getting involved and making a difference in the community. On Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the organization cleaned up the trash along the shore of South Levee Road in Pleasure Island.

Residents within the region visit the Island all year round to do many outdoor activities, yet many of these visitors leave their trash behind when they have completed their activities. Members of our YEL organization also visit the island in their free time and saw the cleanup as a great opportunity to get involved with our community. The Pleasure Island Commission’s Staff were grateful for the group’s initiative to help clean and improve the island. They mentioned they are always looking for volunteers to help clean the island and usually do not have much luck finding people who are willing to help.

In the short period of time that the group was there, they filled up multiple bags of trash from a small portion of the island.

Now that part of the shore is clean, the committee hopes it will encourage visitors to maintain the island’s cleanliness.
